To my readers…
Over the last decade, I have learned that healing is not a linear journey, but instead an opening of doors and windows, revealing detailed landscapes and different views of the world that allow for empathy, understanding, and ultimately forgiveness.
I started writing my story over ten years ago. Deciding what to share and the best format in which to share my story continually guided my writing. As memories surfaced and resurfaced, they found their way into the spaces where they belonged. Capturing my emotional state, as a child at various ages, as well as the emotional states of my parents, and the adults who influenced me, was especially daunting.
When the emotions, memories, and feelings became too much, I relied on the sage words of the incredibly talented writer, Ann Lamott. In her book, Bird by Bird - Some Instructions on Writing and Life, she states, "...all I have to do is to write down as much as I can see through a one-inch picture frame. This is all I have to bite off for the time being." Reading these words gave me permission to slow down and pace myself, trusting that my story would emerge little by little. And so it did.
To my readers, thank you for reading my book and for visiting my website.
I'd love to hear your thoughts and reactions. What resonated with you?
